Tech Levels for Sci-Fi Weapons and Gadgets
Gadgeteers like to collect and hack high-tech things, and In this sci-fi setting, high-tech weapons can be found more commonly, so found weapons are worth a number of gadgets based on their tech level above 5 and the number of levels of special attack they would normally confer. For example a TL6 laser pistol that does 40 points of damage would net 4 minor gadgets (one for each level of special attack x2), and a TL7 Blast Pistol that does 40 points of damage would net 6 minor gadgets, (or 1 Major and 2 minor).
TL6 = minor gadgets x 1 per level of IoP
TL7 = minor gadgets x 2 per level of IoP
TL8 = minor gadgets x 3 per level of IoP

Energy Weapons and The Void
All energy weapons require ammunition to use that is vulnerable to depletion while in space, (and consumption by certain energy-eating baddies) however this is a game-wide restriction associated with the setting and is separate from the ‘uses energy’ disabilities that may be associated with Items of Power and Special Attacks.
